Morris is a former Executive Director of the Fort Des Moines Black Officers Memorial, Inc., whose mission is to honor the U.S. Army's first officer candidate class at Fort Des Moines, Iowa, in 1917, during World War I. His grandfather James Brad Morris was a member of that historic class.
